ABOUT OUR CLUB

Membership:

We currently have approximately 80 members of the club, including life, associate and social members. You can find out more about us and what we can offer you by :-

  1. . . . exploring this and the other pages on our website further;

  2. . . . emailing our secretary or webmaster from the 'CONTACT US' Page in the Menu above;

  3. . . . just coming along to our clubhouse and green from 6 p.m. on any Tuesday evening from late April to mid-September.

Bowling Season:

Our outdoor season opens in April each year and finishes at the end of September. Many club members play indoors in the winter months - at Elmbridge Leisure Centre or at other venues slightly further away.

Matches:

The majority of our matches are played with mixed teams and are friendly fixtures against neighbouring clubs.

We do have a number of separate midweek ladies and gents matches and we participate in 3 midweek league competitions.

We organise a number of internal competitions each year, culminating with a Finals Weekend at the beginning of September.

We host an ANNUAL FOURS TOURNAMENT for visiting teams of 4 from other clubs. Details of this for interested bowlers, can be found on our 'Walton 4s' web page - in the above menu, or click HERE to go there directly.

Match

Coaching:

We are actively seeking new members. Arrangements can be made to introduce newcomers to the game and the club at any convenient time.
We also have qualified coaches who will give free coaching from 6.00 every Tuesday evening during the outdoor season when we hold our Club Night.

Basic Requirements:

Normally you will need a pair of flat-soled, heel-less shoes, and, of course a set of bowls. Don't worry if you don't wish to go to the expense of providing these for yourself until you have made up your mind whether or not bowls is for you. We can make these available for practice sessions.

The dress code for club matches is more standardised. The requirements are normally 'greys' for midweek (grey skirts and white tops for ladies, grey trousers and white tops for men), and 'whites' (tops and bottoms for both men and women) at weekends.

Matches can still continue when it is raining. Obviously very heavy rain can stop play, but, if it is not too heavy, we do often continue when the rain starts. For this eventuality we have wet-weather clothing - usually white waterproofed top and hat.

Facilities:

We have a pleasant clubhouse adjacent to the green, with changing facilities for men and ladies, a kitchen, and a well-stocked licensed bar.
The bar is open whenever the club itself is open, and you will find that the charges for drinks are extremely reasonable.

Club Night:

Tuesday evening is our Club Night when new members are particularly welcome.
Members normally play in ad hoc roll-up games or just watch from the terrace over a chat and a drink.
The evening usually ends with a barbecue on the clubhouse terrace.

Social Activities:

We plan an active social life with weekly darts and bridge sessions as well as a monthly social evening with supper during our off-season - from October to April.

You can read more about these activities on our 'Social Events' Page. (Click on 'SOCIAL' in the top menu to go there directly).
