ALL CHANGE AT THE CLUBHOUSE

Having been frustrated in numerous attempts to obtain grant-funding for an extension to the clubhouse, the decision was taken to invest in an overhaul of our existing facilities. Any members who haven't been along to the club recently will, we hope, welcome its new look.

Since 2014 considerable money has been spent on re-furbishing of the clubhouse. Double glazed windows have been installed throughout the building. A dropped ceiling, lighting, heating, blinds, carpets, chairs, new water heaters in the cloakrooms, have all been put in place and the whole building has had a considerable face-lift. New doors, one wide enough for wheelchair access have been provided. The view of the green from inside has been considerably improved and the double-glazing ensures that we no longer have to keep our outdoor clothing on indoors during the winter season.

Honours Boards have been re-designed and re-positioned. A regulation ramp access to the end door and a disabled toilet facility are also planned.

Just a few sample views of the changes below ...

CURRENT NEWS - MARCH 2016

START of the 2016 OUTDOOR BOWLING SEASON

The 2016 outdoor season will, subject to the ground keeper's agreement, open officially for the first CLUB EVENING at 5 p.m. on Tuesday 19th April

WORKING PARTY ARRANGEMENTS

BUT – Before the season starts there will be work to do, and all members are invited to do their best to help by participating in a WORKING PARTY on – Saturday 9th &/or Sunday 10th April. There are a great number of jobs to be done in and around the clubhouse and green. Do please come along from 10 a.m. on either or both of these days so that we can ensure the green and clubhouse are ready for the new season.

There are many other jobs which will require doing at some time during the season and a list of jobs has been posted in the clubhouse. Members are invited to sign up to any with which they feel able to help.

FIXTURE LISTS FOR 2016

Fixture Lists for 2016 have now been prepared and will be issued as a receipt for 2016 subscriptions.

Details of this season’s matches are now available to view on this website's 'FIXTURES' Page.

START OF SEASON EVENTS:

PRE-SEASON MEETING – Saturday 2nd April, 10 a.m.
The agenda and minutes for this meeting have been sent to all members, along with Competition Entry Form and the 2016 Subscription Form. If you are unable to attend the Meeting, please send Subs and Competition entries to our Treasurer, Michael Drake.

QUIZ NIGHT

All members are invited to come along to this pre-season fund-raising event (details were outlined in the February Newsletter)

FRIDAY, 15TH APRIL 2016 at St.Andrew's URC Church Hall, Hersham Rd, WALTON - START : 7.3O pm

Tickets are available from Chris Florence (Tel. 01932 881259 or email him at: chrisflorence@gmail.com ). There is also a list posted in the clubhouse to which you can add your name.
Chris is asking if anybody has a projector we can borrow on the night (April 15th) in order to put the running scores onto a screen/wall. (The scorer is bringing his own laptop but would like to use a projector with it).
Chris would also welcome contributions for the raffle. These can be left at the clubhouse.
The ticket price of £12 includes a 2-course supper provided by Tony – guaranteed to be well up to his usual standard. A Pay Bar will be available at Clubhouse Prices.

NEW MEMBERS

As are the majority of other bowls clubs, we are currently looking for new members. We are again encouraging our existing members to do what they can to help publicise the delights of outdoor lawn bowls. We hope you will feel able to spread the word to friends and neighbours about how pleasurable and beneficial the game can be. The committee also encourage you to explain the delights of belonging to a friendly club which serves the local community by offering a variety of social as well as sporting activities for our members. Please emphasise that we are open to new members of all ages and can provide tuition to anyone new to the game as well as welcoming any who may already have played before!

CLUB NEWSLETTERS

The latest Newsletters emailed to members were No.38 in February and No.39 in March. If any members who do have an email address but have not been receiving these, normally monthly, please get in touch with Tony Banks, Mike Drake or Bill Booth so that club contact records can be updated. We also ask members to inform Tony, Mike, or Bill, our club secretary, treasurer and webmaster respectively, if they change their email address.

CLUB TEAM JACKET

The committee is considering placing an order with Cotswold Bowls Centre for a lightweight zipped ladies jacket, with pockets, in a royal blue colour - similar to the one in the picture. A slightly heavier men's jacket is also available. The cost is likely to be around £20 each - plus an extra £2.50 for those wishing to incorporate a club badge.

Please let Anne Cowton or Gill Holland know if you would be interested in such a purchase. A sample of the proposed Ladies jacket can be viewed in the clubhouse during the first two weeks of the season, and more details will be posted on the SHOP Page and on the clubhouse noticeboard as soon as available.

CLUB LIBRARY

DON'T FORGET . . . You can enjoy a good read by making use of our own Clubhouse Library. The library is stocked by DONATIONS from club members. We have a good range of books - hardback and paperback, factual and fiction - which can be BORROWED or BOUGHT.

TWO WAYS of RAISING FUNDS for OUR CLUB

1. Help raise money for the club at no cost to yourself.

very time you search for anything on the Internet, instead of going straight to Google, go to ... www.easysearch.org.uk (Just click on the Easysearch logo on the right, if you wish to go there now).

You will be asked 'Who do you wish to raise funds for?'.  Either click on 'W' and find 'Walton Bowling Club', or type in 'Walton Bowling Club'. (It's quicker to type the name) Then just search what you are looking for in the usual way.

EVERY SEARCH WILL GENERATE A SMALL CONTRIBUTION TO WALTON BOWLING CLUB - AT NO COST TO YOU.
easysearch

2. A further way of using this same website to benefit the club and at no personal cost is outlined below . . .

OVER 2000 RETAILERS, INCLUDING M&S, BOOTS, ARGOS, AMAZON, PC WORLD, TOYS R US, VIKING, JOHN LEWIS and many more will give amounts between 2.5% and 5% to the club on orders placed with them through Easyfundraising.org.uk

The items purchased via them on the Internet are just the same price as going to the retailers site direct, but the discount is credited to the registered cause, which for us is, Walton on Thames Bowling Club.

SO NO EXTRA COST FOR YOU ON INTERNET PURCHASES, BUT INCOME FOR THE CLUB.

Anyone can enrol who wishes to support the club, so please include friends, family and neighbours if you wish.

FIRST YOU MUST REGISTER:  . . .
Go to www.easyfundraising.org.uk
(You can click on the site logo on the right or you can bookmark it to save time in the future).
CLICK on 'REGISTER' and complete the details - The Organisation to Support is - Walton on Thames Bowling Club.
Then complete YOUR NAME and E-MAIL ADDRESS.
The Password we are using is 'emlgrove01' (without the inverted commas).
Then you are ready to shop and make money for the club.

To do this, enter the Easysearch website, then enter your e-mail address and password ( elmgrove01 ), and click on the link to the retailer you want - say Amazon - and go straight into their site.
All products are the same price as going there direct, but the club benefits from the commission.

Just a small effort to set up, but good rewards for the club, and at no extra cost to the purchaser.

DO GIVE IT A GO AND SEE WHAT WE CAN RAISE FOR THE CLUB !!!
