CLUB PROCEDURES

This page contains details of day-to-day PROCEDURES relating specifically to our club.

Club Regulations . . . (CLUB BY-LAWS)

  1. Club dress for all members and guests on the green shall be grey below the waist and club colours or white above the waist, unless stated otherwise in the fixture list. Smart casual dress is allowed on Tuesday Club evenings, unless playing competitions. Regulation bowling shoes must be worn at all times. Any proposed changes to Club dress are to be approved by the AGM.

  2. All playing Guests, including Associate Members, may only play a total of five times during the playing season and must pay the appropriate green fees.

  3. Protective Sheets must be used on the Green when so directed by the Green Keeper/Ranger or Committee.

  4. Disputes on the Green shall be resolved by reference to the 'Laws of Bowls'. The rules governing Club competitions are as posted in the Club House; clarification may be sought from the Competition Secretary. The date for completion of a round in a Club competition may only be extended with the agreement of the Competition Secretary.

  5. Rink Bookings. Club Matches shown in the fixture list will always take first priority. Rinks may be pre-booked with the following priority: National Competitions, Surrey Competitions, North West Surrey Competitions, and Club Competitions. Rinks may not be pre-booked for roll-ups or friendlies. Club Competitions played on Tuesday should aim to be finished by 6pm.

  6. No dogs, except guide dogs to be allowed in the Club House, and they must be kept off the Green.

  7. Markers: must follow the guidelines posted in the Club House.

  8. Bar Hours. The permitted opening hours will be 10.30am to 11.00pm daily: Sundays and Good Friday 10.30am to 10.30pm, and Christmas Day 12 noon to 3pm and 7pm to 10.30pm.

  9. All members who enter competitions must ensure they can make themselves available for play on Finals Weekend.

  10. Any notices displayed in the clubhouse by members, or guests, should be restricted to bowls related items. Anyone wishing to display non bowling related items should first obtain the agreement of the committee, or an Officer of the Club.

  11. Tea Rota. All playing members are to make themselves eligible for at least one Tea Duty during the season, either a weekend or mid week match. Players must arrange for own substitutes if unable to undertake duty on selected date.

  12. All NEW bowlers should make themselves available for at least four introductory lessons to have the basics and etiquette of the game explained.

Weekly Programme

USE OF THE GREEN & RINKS

The NORMAL WEEKLY PROGRAMME

Our normal weekly programme for the use of the green and its six rinks is outlined in the table on the left.

Club Competition matches, friendly roll-ups and practice sessions should be booked for times which do not clash with pre-arranged league and friendly matches (as they appear in the published Fixtures Handbook).

A booking form for doing this is displayed in the Clubhouse. See the further note below.

To lessen the wear on the green, the direction of play is changed on Mondays of each week, and rink positions are changed daily.

The rinks are numbered from 1 to 6, starting in the far left hand corner furthest away from the pavilion. In this way, when playing parallel to the pavilion, Rink No.6 will be nearest to the pavilion, and on the far right when playing at right angles to the pavilion.

It is the responsibility of the person or persons setting up a rink for play to follow the directions outlined on the accompanying chart, a copy of which is displayed in the equipment store.

When laying out equipment for Matches and Competitions in the weeks when play direction is across the front of the pavilion, please ensure that games start from the 'Hedge End', i.e. to the left of the pavilion.

This will improve safety and give more room for Players on lower numbered rinks to pass back and forth.

When setting up Rink 6 in this direction, it is suggested that rink equipment (score board, measure stick, etc.) is placed along the side of the rink facing the rose bed.

THE TABLE IMMEDIATELY BELOW GIVES THE RINK PLAYING DIRECTIONS TO BE FOLLOWED IN THE 2012 SEASON . . .

Bowls Tea Cup

THE TEA ROTA

Members take it in turns to prepare teas for weekend matches. This will normally work out at no more than once or twice per season. When members are unable to carry out these duties on their designated dates they should arrange to swap with someone. Details of the allocated timetable for the season and further information on the procedure to be followed can be found posted on the clubhouse noticeboard.
